Your wellness journey is a testament to your inner resilience and the beauty of transformation.

Purpose
We often feel anxious, depressed, and lonely when going through challenges in life––and may be unsure about where to start, or who to turn to because of: stigma, feelings of shame, reproach, and rejection. If this resonates with you, and you need someone to talk to, you’ve come to the right place! Thank you for taking that first step towards your wellness journey.
Who Am I?
My name is Proscovia (Kristie) Oroma, I possess a natural deep passion to connect with people who are hurting and going through life challenges, and to be present with them in their utmost time of need. This has translated into the life changing work I have accomplished with clients (from diverse backgrounds) on their wellness journeys.

I specialize in helping individuals, couples, and families overcome grief and loss of many kinds, including loss of loved ones, fur babies, job etc. I also work with various mental illnesses, emotional challenges, and mood disorders, to help people rise up from a place of adversity, use their inner strengths, and strive for a better tomorrow by starting to rebuild today. Just like the Phoenix, we need to constantly renew and reinvent ourselves because wellness is not a destination––it's a continuous journey of self-discovery and self-improvement. Lastly, sometimes we just need someone to hold our hands on that journey to a better, more confident and happier you!

At Phoenix Wellness & Psychotherapy, I offer a 15-minute free consultation to make this process easier. The goal is to ensure that people are comfortable and have access to the best therapeutic fit, because this impacts the healing work that is to happen. If during the consult we collectively decide that this is not the right fit for you, I am able to refer you to another specialized therapist.

About Me
I am a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) with over 8 years of work in the social work field, supporting clients from diverse backgrounds through individual, family, and couples therapy. I am currently registered and in good standing with CRPO and Ontario Association of Mental Health Professionals (OAMHP).

I recently graduated from Tyndale University with a Master of Divinity (MDIV), with a concentration in Clinical Counselling. My educational background includes a post graduate diploma in Addictions and Community Services work, a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Psychology and Gender studies, and a postgraduate Diploma in Project Planning and Management.

My personal philosophy about therapy is that all parts of a person’s life have to be functioning well to achieve overall wellness. When we are afraid of facing some challenges in our lives, it is only a matter of time before we are triggered and it spills over to other areas. This is why I adopt a holistic approach in helping clients understand their circumstances, as I walk with them on their wellness journey.

Treatment for Anxiety
Do you worry and sometimes get the odd case of butterflies in the stomach and feel like you are missing out on opportunities and happiness because of fears and worries? Is anxiety interfering with your life? While moderate anxiety can be limiting, severe anxiety can be crippling. Anxiety is a mental and physical reaction to perceived threats. In small doses, anxiety is helpful. It protects us from danger, and focuses our attention on our problems. But when anxiety is too severe, or occurs too frequently, it can become debilitating.

Some symptoms of anxiety may include (but are not limited to): avoidance of fear, excessive nervousness, increased heart rate, muscle tension, poor concentration, sleep problems, upset stomach, and uncontrollable worry.

Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT)
If you are looking to learn how to identify, question, and change how your attitudes and beliefs related to the emotional and behavioural reactions that cause you difficulty in various situations, then CBT may be for you. It is a structured, time limited, problem focused, and goal oriented form of therapy which has registered a lot of success in helping people change their negative perceptions of life experiences, situations, phobias etc.
Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT for Individuals and Couples)
EFT works on the assumption that lack of emotional awareness or avoiding unpleasant emotions can cause harm, and inhibits us from using the important information emotions provide to us daily. If you have been struggling with how to deal with negative emotions, EFT will help you.
-Focus on your emotions through increased awareness and acceptance.

-Learn to transform your emotions and better use the information they provide to avoid negative or harmful behaviours or effects of certain emotions.
Grief Therapy
Are you going through any kind of loss such as life transitions, immigration, loss of a loved one, loss of your fur baby (babies), loss of a job, a break up, divorce or separation etc.? I will help you process the emotions that come with grief and loss, walk you through each of the stages of grief and loss, to help you face the new reality with confidence and hope that there is a better tomorrow/future. The overall goal of grief counselling is to help you adapt to the loss of a loved one (name your loss), and be able to adjust to a new reality without them.
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
Trauma can be considered a pervasive problem resulting from exposure to an incident or series of events that are emotionally disturbing or life –threatening with lasting adverse effects on the individual’s functioning and emotional, mental, physical, social, and spiritual wellness. Some people may experience a range of reactions after trauma, and most people recover from initial symptoms overtime. However, when these symptoms persist then they may be diagnosed with PTSD. If this sounds like something you would be interested in exploring more, to process if it is trauma or PTSD that you are experiencing, I would be happy to walk this journey with you.
Anger Management Therapy
Anger may be a normal response to challenging, uncomfortable situations however anger is usually considered a secondary emotion with an underlying primary emotion. Anger can be helpful if it for example motivates you to advocate for people in unjust situations. But it can become a problem if you always feel triggered by things from the past that affect your current relationships and ability to function. If this resonates with you, reach out for individual or group therapy. Certification will be provided after completion of the anger management course.
